ACTIVITIES

Block of the Month

This year's Block of the Month will focus on using a 10-inch layer cake.  Additional neutral fabric may be needed to complete all the blocks.  Pattern for a block will be provided each month.  Have fun in using those layer cakes. The cost to participate is $2/month.

Challenge

The Challenge for 2025 is to create a quilt of a live animal (no dinosaur bones).  No limitations on size or techniques.  Prizes will be awarded!

Zephyr Camp

Quilt Camp is at the Presbyterian Conference Center at Zephyr Point, Lake Tahoe.  We will be going to Zephyr Point September 22-26, 2024 and staying at the Tallac Center. Four nights, yes, that is ONE LESS day than we’ve had recently and a few less meals, but we are trying hard to get the cost back down. Sign-ups will begin in June. The cost is $500 – so start saving for our BEST EVER camp. We need a $175 deposit with your application and full payment by August 21.  If you have any questions, please contact: Jenny Gedeon, Karen Banta, or Bev Kennedy.

Classes & Workshops

From time to time, the guild offers classes, usually through a speaker or member.  A typical class costs $45 (less when taught by a member).  Other guilds in our area also have speakers and workshops that may be of interest to our members, and many welcome non-members in any class that is not full...as do we.  If you belong to another guild, you are welcome to attend any class that is not already full for the same price as one of our members.  Our guild policies regarding workshops can be found here.

UFO Challenge

It's not too late to join the UFO challenge! Your next finished project is due at the April meeting. Every six months we have a drawing for bigger prizes for those of you who have completed at least three UFOs in the previous six months. For the first three projects completed, you will get a ticket for the semi-annual drawing. If you get six or more projects completed, you will get two tickets for the big drawing. We're hoping that helps motivate you to get your projects done! Happy sewing!

Day Camp

Day camp is an opportunity to sew with friends (old and new), come and go as you please.  Bring what you need to make a comfortable work station and work on your own projects.  We have a potluck the first night and provide a simple dinner the next night(s).  We plan Day Camp two times a year.  Our second Day Camp for 2024 is August 22-25.

Registration:  Sign-ups for the August camp ended on July 31. We have 43 attending this year.

Location: Lincoln Veterans’ Memorial Hall, 5th Street, Lincoln

Hours:  9am-8pm Thursday-Saturday, 9am-4pm Sunday

Cost:  $50

Meals:  Potluck Thursday night, dinner provided Friday and Saturday.  We're eating at 5pm so people can get home before dark if they want to.

Mercy Retreat

Twice a year 15-20 members travel to the Mercy Retreat Center in Auburn for a long weekend of sewing and fun. This is a great alternative for those who don’t want to travel far, who need to go home for pets or family, or who can’t take the altitude at Lake Tahoe. They offer private rooms, good food, a nice sewing area, great camaraderie, and a wonderful setting.

Upcoming dates for Mercy Retreats:

2024

Monday 10/7/2024 - Thursday 10/10/2024

2025

Quilt Show

Our next quilt show, "Red and White Quilt Extravaganza," will be held on May 9-10, 2024, at William Jessup University.  We feature Quilts, Vendors, our Boutique, Raffle Baskets, a Country Store we call "Second Time Around," and quilts for sale.  Lunch and snacks will be available.  The show is 10-5 on Friday and 10-4 on Saturday.  Admission is $10, good for both days.

Tea

Each year we sponsor a Tea, both as a fundraiser and as a social event.  We have wonderful food, entertainment, and raffle baskets.

Our next Tea will be on a Saturday in February or March 2025.  It will be held at the Shepherd of the Sierra Presbyterian Church, where we meet.
