GUILD ACTIVITIES DURING THE PANDEMIC

Monthly Guild Meetings

Until we can meet in person, Guild meetings will be held via Zoom.  Members are available to help you get set up on Zoom.  Contact Jen Luton (408-807-8972) or Colleen Voet (916-771-0259) - either would be happy to help.

AARP also has an excellent article on How to Use Zoom.

We also had breakout rooms where small numbers of members were gathered together to chat - they also don’t record so we paused the video during the breakout rooms.

Here is a recording of our June Guild Meeting.  This was our first Zoom guild meeting. We learned that when we do a Poll, it doesn’t show up on the recording. So Poll questions and results are in the meeting minutes in the July newsletter. The recording was paused during breakout rooms.

Here is our July Guild Meeting. I was a minute or two late in starting the recording and getting it adjusted just right.  The recording was paused during breakout rooms.  There is a program, a presentation about recent guild activities.

Here is our September Guild Meeting.  The recording was paused during our break. The program was Show and Tell.

“Happy Hour”

Every Tuesday at 4pm the guild sponsors a get-together on Zoom.  This is an informal gathering where members chat.  It’s a good time to check out your connection and work out any bugs.  Many people are using Zoom to say in touch with family members, grandchildren, old friends, and other groups that can no longer meet.

Community Outreach

Our community outreach activities continue.  We have quilts to work on, whether making a top, quilting one, or putting binding on it.  We also have pillowcases and “Vina quilts” (small quilts that are paired with a book and a stuffed animal and given to preschoolers).   Dozens of kits of all kinds are available in our Community Service store (also known as Cathy’s Garage) with just a quick call to Cathy Urbanus (707-280-5784) to arrange a time to pick them out.

Opportunity Quilt

Most of our potential venues for selling tickets have been canceled, and we don’t know when they will resume.  So we are dependent more than ever on our members, both to buy their own tickets and to sell tickets to others…friends and family.  For tickets, please contact Joan Goodwin (916-716-7377).

Block of the Month

Jill Keppler and Meredith Rogers have started sending out directions for the 2020-2021 Block of the Month, a lovely quilt with 12” blocks called Hannah’s Sampler.

To join in now, and hopefully finish by the end of the guild year, contact Jill Keppler (916-521-3905 call or text) and sign up!  No money required, she will mail you the first 4 months’ patterns.
