On October 19 we welcome Jenny Lyon, speaking on “Quilting is a Contact Sport.”

Jenny uses her domestic sewing machine to create quilts, art quilts and wearable art. She has been sewing since she was a little girl, trying to make her own clothes. Jenny comes from a long line of traditional bed quilt makers, but she didn’t take a formal class until 1983. During the time she was raising her sons, she did not quilt, but re-entered quilting in 1999. And now she just can’t stop!

Her work has been juried into the Houston International Quilt Festival, AQS in Paducah, the Pacific International Quilt Festival and the Curitiba Quilt Show in Brazil. She has also shown her work in several art galleries and SAQA exhibits. She has been teaching the art of quilting since 2006 and teaches nationally at guilds, Craft Napa and at the Houston International Quilt Festival.

She lives in Granite Bay, CA  with her long-suffering husband. Her sons have left the nest, which leaves more room for quilting stuff! Jenny is happy to share her passion for free motion quilting through workshops, retreats and lectures. You can find out more about Jenny at her website,

She calls herself the Quilt Skipper because once while quilting her own quilt, she was so delighted by the unexpected beauty of it and what emerged from her needle, that she found herself cheerfully skipping around the house when she took her breaks

October 20 Workshop:  Introduction to Fearless Free-motion Quilting

If you would like to learn to free motion quilt in a supportive and fun atmosphere, then join Jenny and
learn how to begin quilting your own projects at home with your home machine.

Free motion quilting allows you to work directly on your own projects with little or no marking and no stencils.  You will begin working on paper and make lots of mistakes there-then you will begin to play on fabric samples with confidence.  This is not as hard as you think!

Take a look at the sample-youe will work on all of these motifs in class.  Free motion quilting can be so
fun and liberating-imagine being able to quilt your own quilts!
